How do birthdays work when traveling through different time zones?

In summary, when traveling to a different time zone, birthdays can be a bit confusing. The date and time may change, but the actual age does not. It is important to keep track of the local time and date to ensure celebrations are held on the correct day. Some people choose to celebrate twice, once in their home time zone and once in the local time zone. Others may choose to stick to their home time zone for their birthday. It is ultimately up to personal preference, but keeping track of time and dates is key in avoiding any confusion.

If you are born in central time zone and you travel back to mountain time zone, do you celebrate your birthday according to central time or mountain time?

Up to you. That's a matter of personal preference, not physics.

How old you are can be calculated from UTC.

If and when you celebrate your birthday is entirely up to you.

I always celebrate on weekend after my birthday (celebrating in advance can bring bad luck :p )

1. What is a time zone?

A time zone is a designated area of the Earth that observes the same standard time. It is used to synchronize clocks and keep time consistent across different regions.

2. How many time zones are there?

There are 40 different time zones around the world, with some countries having multiple time zones within their borders.

3. Why do we have time zones?

Time zones were created to make it easier for people to coordinate and schedule activities across different regions. Before the concept of time zones, each city and town had its own local time, which could make communication and travel difficult.

4. How are time zones determined?

Time zones are determined by lines of longitude, with each time zone being roughly 15 degrees of longitude wide. The primary reference point for time zones is the Prime Meridian, which runs through Greenwich, England.

5. What is daylight saving time?

Daylight saving time (DST) is the practice of moving clocks forward by one hour during the summer months in order to have more daylight in the evening. This is done in an effort to save energy and make better use of natural sunlight. Not all countries observe DST and it is a controversial topic in some places.
