    I would use conservation of energy.
    1, how does the cylinder move?
    2, At what point is it moving fastest?
    3, Where is it's energy at the start, where when it's moving fastest?

    Not if you don't understand what is happening and how the ball will move, no!
    If you actually had this weight in front of you and you let go what would it do?
