Value of Russian in Astronomy

Assuming a candidate for an astronomer position in the US fulfills the standard skills and requirements, would it be seen as an added plus to speak, write, and understand Russian fluently?

If the position applied for involved collaborating with Russian partners it would,
otherwise though it would still be useful to be able to read Russian scientific papers directly without having to depend on an interpreter.
