Vibration Control

  1. Jul 5, 2009 #1
    Hi,
I am a bit confused about somethings.

I want to determine the mode shapes of a free-free beam.
I assume that I can use the following?
    1. the Euler-Bernoulli theory
    2. the generalised wave equation
    3. modal analysis

With modal analysis I can use the eigenvalue problem to finally end up with state space matrices to be able to determine the modes numerically with matlab. But how do I use the EB theory and the generalised wave equation in order to do (analytical) modal analysis ? Are 1 and 2 connected to each other? How?

    Thank you
