Homework Help: Wave function collapse

    1. The problem statement, all variables and given/known data
    A particle is in the state
    1/2 |1> - 1/2 |2> + 1/2 |3> - 1/2 |4>

    A detector is placed to measure state |4>. What the particle's wave function collapses into, if the detector does not find a particle

    <i|j> = delta (i, j)

    3. The attempt at a solution

    1/sqrt(3) ( |1> - |2> + |3>) - normalized perpendicular component
