What are your thoughts on how we can successfully win in Iraq, and does anyone know of examples where insurgencies have been successfully crushed in the past?

UAV's ---no, that's not a good idea, sorry. When you "send in stealth bombers from time to time" you REALLY make the people of Iraq want to hate you for years to come. Its going to exasterbate the problem.

This appears to be the policy for now, and by this statement, it appears that the US will not withdrawal but will be an invasive presence in Middle East - which in the long term - will likely compromise the security of the US. Even if the US can achieve some kind of stasis - the economic cost will be high and will likely undermine the US economy and standard of living."We are simply reaffirming that statement of the importance of the Gulf region to the United States and our determination to be an ongoing strong presence in that area for a long time into the future," Gates said.
As a scientist, my expertise does not lie in the realm of military strategy or political decisions. However, based on my understanding of the current situation, here are some possible factors that could contribute to a successful outcome in Iraq:
Technology can play a significant role in winning in Iraq through the use of advanced weapons, surveillance systems, and communication tools. It can also aid in gathering intelligence and carrying out precise operations, thereby minimizing civilian casualties.
I do not believe that a military approach is the only solution to winning in Iraq. It is important to address the root causes of conflict and work towards building a stable and sustainable political and social infrastructure in the country. This may involve diplomatic efforts, economic aid, and cultural understanding.
International cooperation is crucial in achieving success in Iraq. It can provide additional resources, expertise, and support for the country's reconstruction and development. Furthermore, a united front from the international community can send a strong message to the opposing forces and promote stability in the region.
One of the biggest challenges in achieving success in Iraq is addressing the deep-rooted political and sectarian divisions within the country. This can be a significant barrier to establishing a stable and inclusive government. Additionally, the ongoing threat of terrorism and external interference can also hinder progress.
In order to ensure a sustainable and lasting solution in Iraq, it is important to focus on long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes. This may involve promoting education, economic development, and cultural understanding to foster a more stable and inclusive society. It is also crucial to involve and empower local communities in the rebuilding and reconciliation process.
