Math 401: Advanced Calculus 1 (I think it is more commonly called Real Analysis)

We have an Advanced Calc 1 class at my school and we have a Real Analysis class. The thing is that the Advanced calc classes are 492 (or 500 level if your taking them as a grad student). Where as the real analysis is something like 423 or something. Who the comes up with those numbers anyways?

Here I think they are roughly the same class. You can take it as 401 or 501, they are both the same teacher, same time, same book, but 501 is graduate, so I assume there is some sort of extra work required. Also 401 is called Advanced Calculus, while 501 is called Introductory Real Analysis.

In the uk we don`t get to pick our subject! we are told you have these 8modules and you can pick one more from these five to supplement the number of points earned You get a choice of Nanoscience, Developing medical Technologies, Nuclear physics, Cosmology and particle physics (why they are together i don`t know but I intend to find out!) and Superfluidity and Superconductivity.

In a way it`s good as the degree becomes a lot more specific.

And i forgot to put the two maths modules on; one is strait calculus and the other MATLAB (which i love! )

I notice that most people here take a wide variety of subjects - both in the sciences and the arts. It's quite unusual for people in Brunei to be well-rounded academically in that way.

I'm now in my second last year in high school (the school year started in March), and like most other 'science-stream' students at my school, I am taking 5 A-Level courses:

1. Physics
2. Chemistry
3. Biology
4. Mathematics
5. General Studies

We don't have any fancy names for our subjects, since the range of courses available at my school is quite limited...I think it works in almost the same way as in the UK. I'm likely to continue study in all 5 subjects in the next school year, although there is a possibility that I might be doing further maths.

I took two courses this summer to start off second year so I can just take four courses each semester this year and stay on schedule.

MATH 200 - Multivariable Calculus

ASTR 200A - General Astronomy I

I also took ASTR 200B (General Astronomy II) and MUS 111 (Fundamentals of Music) this summer.

It's 19 hours per week, which is ok I guess. What sucks is that I was forced to take a bunch of 8:30 classes. My earliest class in the last year has been 11:00. It's going to be mighty tough getting up at that time.
