SUMMARY

The discussion centers on the availability of fully online degrees in Biology and Physics. Notable institutions offering such programs include the University of Florida, which provides a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and the University of Nebraska, which offers a Master of Science in Biology. Additionally, Oklahoma State University (OSU) provides a Master of Science in Natural Resources. The conversation highlights the challenges of obtaining online degrees in laboratory sciences, particularly at the undergraduate level, due to the necessity for hands-on experience.

PREREQUISITES
  • Understanding of online degree structures and accreditation
  • Familiarity with laboratory science curriculum requirements
  • Knowledge of the differences between undergraduate and graduate degree programs
  • Awareness of local community college offerings and transfer options
NEXT STEPS
  • Research the University of Florida's online Bachelor of Science in Biology program
  • Explore the University of Nebraska's online Master of Science in Biology program
  • Investigate Oklahoma State University's online Master of Science in Natural Resources
  • Look into local junior colleges for lower-division physics and biology courses
USEFUL FOR

This discussion is beneficial for prospective students seeking online degrees in Biology or Physics, particularly those constrained by geographic or financial limitations. It is also useful for academic advisors and educational planners exploring online education options in the sciences.

I am a new user on Physics Forums and I just want to know which Colleges or Universities offer Physics or Biology degrees that are completely online? The reason I ask is that I cannot afford to go out of state (or out of my own county for that matter) to get a science degree. My interests include Biological Research, Evolutionary Biology and Biophysics. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Are you looking for an undergraduate or a graduate degree? Biology and Physics are laboratory sciences, so online degrees can be pretty problematic, especially at the undergraduate level where getting "hands on" experience is very important to the standard curriculum.

A quick Google search does show that there are some respected institutions offering such degrees such as the University of Florida offering a BS and the University of Nebraska offering an MS in biology and OSU offering an MS in Natural Resources.

Online physics degrees are going to be a bit harder to find, although there are a few respectable online programs in related programs like astronomy and space science.

Have you tried your local junior college? If not, you might want to consider taking their full lower-division set of physics and biology courses and then decide if you want to try to continue your education online. At least you would get the hands-on experience of the lower division labs.
