Hi , just joined the Forum . It would be nice if I could get some 'educated' answers!
My son does BMX racing. Gearing is very important to how well he will perform on different tracks. My questions is - are we better to run large front and rear sprockets or smaller and lighter front and rear ? ( actually the weight difference is minimal ) I can achieve the same ratio both ways but can't help but thinking if we go larger then surely we achieve more leverage and mechanical advantage in both front and rear .What do you guys think ?

I can't see why it would make any difference, at least in a practical sense. For more leverage, try using longer pedal cranks. Of course, that would effectively be changing the gear ratio.
