He is the author of the fatwah permitting the rape of infidel women and children.

Is he "mainstream" or the Islamic equivalent of the Westboro Baptists? Have any Moslem leaders or groups disavowed him?

Muslims have also the Westboro Baptists version. They are the same school of Al-Qaeda terrorists.

He is not a well known person in the Islamic world. I read his original Fatwa and I come to the following conclusion:

    - He belongs the extreme salafi school (Close to Al-Qaeda terrorist ideology).

    - He did not mention anything about raping kids or women. His speech about taking women and kids as "slaves", which was a common rule in middle Ages. Women can choose to be house-slave or farm-slave, while kids were protected from any violence.

    - He refers to his Fatwa to the ancient ages not the modern time. He mentioned if the situation changed and such rules could harm the Muslims then they should avoid such action.
