Who? when? resonance

  1. Feb 27, 2006 #1
    I'm researching theory, resonance.
Anyone knows who and when advocated theory resonance and how it developed? It may not be appropreate in this forum, but I heard we have theory resonance in psychological aspect. Please help me!

What exactly do you mean by "pshychological aspect"? Resonance in vibrations and modal analysis is a well known physical phenomena that has been the center of research for a very long time.

    I'd suggest starting here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resonance

and then researching the links to see what else you come up with. I can't say that I can think of one single person who came out with the idea of resonance since it appears in a wide variety of fields.

I'm also confused here: "resonance" isn't a theory, it is a name given to a physical and mathematical phenomena.

    Thank you guys.
I was given "resonance" as a theory, so I thought it was.
What I meant resonance as psychological aspect was that if neurologic resonance can somehow relates to mental stability by absorbing a good energy from the outside. for example, depressed person could get better or calm by absorbing good vibration from outside into their nerves system.

Can you explain more details of resonance as physical phenomenon in which fields or ways?

Um, you're in an engineering forum. To an engineer, "resonance" is a phenomena where forcing an oscillation at a certain frequency causes the oscillations to increase (read the Wik article Fred posted).

What you are describing sounds like mysticism and it isn't something that is appropriate here - and we can't help you with it anyway because we don't really know much about it.

lilcupcake - that sounds like metaphysics - its a different forum and regarded on forums like this one as a psuedo-science based on anecdotes and tradition instead of repeatable experiments and mathematics. The terms may be similar, but the definitions and applications are VERY different.

If it works for you, then good for you. You'll find a FAR more receptive audience in those circles then you will here. On this forum, energy is quantified in joules as the ability to perform work on something and in a form like heat or electrical or kinetic et cetera. What you're talking about is a theory best described by its followers.

    Thank you very much, guys.

Sorry, I was in the wrong place.
    You guys helped me anyway.
