Why anecdotale evidence means nothing

    I tend to think of anecdotal evidence as on a par with old wive's tales, but - as a friend of mine used to say - even old wives can tell the truth i.e. can make an accurate observation and report it to their peers. Over time its eventually sunk in that perhaps randomised double-blind placebo trials aren't the only way of getting to the truth.
