Why don't we fall in love with an actress or actor?
The discussion revolves around the nature of emotional attachment to celebrities, exploring concepts of love, infatuation, and the psychological and physiological aspects of these feelings. Participants examine whether it is possible to truly "fall in love" with someone they do not know and how this relates to celebrity culture.
Participants do not reach a consensus on the definitions of love and infatuation, with multiple competing views on whether one can truly love a celebrity without personal interaction. The discussion remains unresolved regarding the nature of these emotional attachments.
Definitions of love and infatuation are not universally agreed upon, and the discussion reflects varying personal interpretations and experiences. The psychological and chemical aspects of love are mentioned but not fully explored or agreed upon.
What is generally understood by "love".how do you define "in love" anyone?
Wow - that's quite a discipline you have there ... no, for most people all that is needed is that they have to invest some time in the potential object of their affections. The other person need not even be aware of them. But I thought to be "in love" the other person has to invest time with you first.

Love has been the subject of scientific scrutiny too:

The ability to make an emotional connection with the audience is one of the skills of a good actor... it is hardly surprising that strong emotions can develop.
This is a well known phenomenon and can be something of an occupational hazard for the actor.
However, if you want to inquire into the meaning of "true" love etc, then that is a philosophical question.
where did you hear this? What is your source?gva said:No. I heard you can only be in love if there is hope of reciprocation or expectations from the partner.
Did you read the links in post #6? They answer those questions. For an actress/actor who doesn't know you.. how could you be in love with him.. this is why I want to know the definition of "in love". It seems to mean different things to different people.
Yet many people fall in love with people they don't even know... you don't have to actually know someone, whatever that means, you need only feel you know them well enough for an emotional bond to take place.Kevin McHugh said:How do you fall in love with some one you don't know? I can see being infatuated with a celebrity, but that's about it.
