Hello, hope whoever is reading this is having a fine day. I have been fiddling with JFET's in both practice and theory and I was just curious why JFET pinchoff voltage varies so wildly between individual samples, even amongst the same part number. I'm assuming it has to do with production variation just like any other component specification tolerance, but why roughly 2 orders of magnitude more than usual? I realize that this might turn out to be more of a chemistry or maybe even quantum physics question, but I thought I'd start here. Any insights? Thanks.
