Is it possible to reach speed of sound?

Realistically, why not do it with one car? To do it with two, each car must be traveling at half the speed of sound(and I'm assuming we're talking about the speed of sound through air) with respect to the surface below it. For the purpose of a thought experiment, one could be more stimulated.

Is the Quest for a Theory of Everything Getting Out of Hand?

What is simple to you? Even if we were to formulate the TOE(which we could call any theory of Quantum Gravity) solely with arithmetic, the questions of consistency within number theory researchable by Peano's Axioms would arise. You cannot develop a simpler logical system than one formulated...

How Many People Share Our World?

Actually, the UN count seems to be a little off. They have a lot more people living in California than the US Census does.

How Many People Share Our World?

The US isn't the one with the population growth problem. Its the industrial countries... Lets hope they stabalize soon. Or maybe we should hope that they don't, and we are forced to populate the solar system...

Is the Quest for a Theory of Everything Getting Out of Hand?

I don't see how you get from "my argument" to "evolution being in trouble." I'm not saying that an explanation for something complicated is going to be necessarily complex. I'm am saying that a union of two fundamentally incompatable and individually complex explanations (GR and QM)will...

Is it possible to reach speed of sound?

"Sound" seems to be a relatively low goal to set with this model. It would be much more interesting to ask about the speed of light. Or to give an arbitrary large velocity and ask how many cars would there have to be in order to reach that speed... This question kinda has potential and...

Is the Quest for a Theory of Everything Getting Out of Hand?

Ever heard of the big bang? That is a situation where high density(GR) and very small distances(QM) arise. Unless you believe the universe is infinite, and then by necessity have a situation where QM won't apply.

Is the Quest for a Theory of Everything Getting Out of Hand?

What alternative is there to the complexity? Do you accept Quantum Mechanics? Do you accept Relativity? They are both heavily mathematical and difficult for the average person to grasp conceptually. If you accept both, you also must accept the fundamental differences between the two. Finding...

How can I improve my understanding of Calculus 1 by tackling tougher problems?

Sometimes the tougher problems in Calc 1 are only more difficult because they require more background knowledge- a better working understanding of algebra or trigonometry. Some courses don't cover those questions because they aren't required for a course on how to do Calculus. Try taking the...

Medical Which frequencies does an MRI machine use? Is it microwaves?

That was wonderful. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance imaging is actually a very advanced concept...it involves quantum mechanics and was worthy of a nobel prize. Enjoy the reading

Convergence/Divergence and Reordering of an Alternating Series

I was just thinking about the following series: 1-2+3-4+5... I'm not familiar with any other series like this one(other than the alternating harmonic), and I was curious as to whether or not it would be convergent, and if reordering it to -1+2-3+4-5... would change its convergence...

    Ancient Engineering Measurements

I can agree with that. The bible is a collection of legends and fairy tales to me, so I'm not much concerned.

    Ancient Engineering Measurements

Not sure where this one should go, please move if this is the wrong forum: There is a verse in the Christian Bible where a bowl is described to have the following dimensions: 10 cubit diameter 30 cubit circumference 1 Handsbreadth thickness A modern cubit is 18 inches, 1...

    Time: A Scientific Exploration

Yes, the curl and divergence are inherent properties of the local space time, much like the curvature of the cars hood. I suppose perhaps I'm being too aggressive in my word choice. I know you can take the derivative, and thus demonstrate change, within nearly any system. There is a...

    Time: A Scientific Exploration

Time is ONLY used as a reference of change. You can take a derivative, mathematically, of change in a system that, physically, is unchanging. In PHYSICS, change requires time. As I said, if you are differentiating the slope of, say, a car hood, this is mathematically sound. It does not...
