Undergrad Philosophy of Math: Interesting Leads & Ideas
I just checked out the map of mathematics, loved it. I think what I am looking for is when they mentioned the foundations of mathematics. I am imagining that I want to know the thought processes or typical mind sets mathematicians had during a particular era. What our interpretation of math is...- Abscissas

Physics About to Graduate with a Double Major in Physics and Math
I think this is sort of the case, but I am looking through the material for a PhD in applied mathematics and applied physics. I think between now and next applying season I am going to do self studies into topology, general functions, and partial differential equations in space.- Abscissas

Physics About to Graduate with a Double Major in Physics and Math
Thanks for your response. Yeah, I wasn't always the best student, not from lack of trying, but I just didn't know how to study and learn effectively and properly. I was still finding my way of learning. I am not sure if I should, but I am going to only because it sounds really interesting and...- Abscissas

Physics About to Graduate with a Double Major in Physics and Math
Hey, thanks for your reply, it really is a case of the senior year reality crash. I think I've made up my mind and I want to get my PhD in applied mathematics and study differential geometry/topology. I have been looking at the programs and I think I am pretty well qualified, and can do pretty...- Abscissas

Physics About to Graduate with a Double Major in Physics and Math
Hey guys, so I am about to graduate in May with a double major in physics and mathematics and I don't really know what to do. So my grades are not the best, but they improved as I've gotten further into my academic career, and this year I am hoping to make the dean's list. I want to get my PhD...- Abscissas

Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
Okay, so here is my problem, I am working on 2(1/n)^n. The ^n is to make it alternate. the 1/n is to make it go to zero, and then the 2 is to make it not go to zero. How can something diverge, and still go to zero? -
Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
So when i read this, I think of a wave dimming. Is this the right idea? -
Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
each term of the series* -
Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
Because each sum, is negative, or when we say its alternating do we just mean each term? -
Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
But wait, it would then violate the rule that it goes to 0, and i feel like I am wrong on this one, but its not alternating -
Undergrad Alternative examples, alternating series test
Idk why, but i was trying to make it converge
