    One pin AC connector (Coaxial)

8kV? That is a lot of power down that little pin. I expect that the amperage would not be that high? It occurs to me that the socket I drew above has a flaw: If the plug is not inserted, the 12v+data pin might touch the hot contact. This flaw also exists in real-life DC coaxial plugs, but...

I am writing a SciFi story but I don't like Rayguns

If the aliens are peaceful, maybe they use ordinary gunpowder bullets because they were good enough. They didn't want to bother spending money developing something that rarely got used. So bullets, and not many aliens are skilled at shooting them.

When I was a little kid. I don't even remember the movie, but I think it bored me, so I went exploring around the lot and behind the concession stand. Also, the screen was really dim, and the projection failed once or twice, causing everyone to honk their horns and flash their lights. Those...

    One pin AC connector (Coaxial)

I could have sworn that I saw somewhere an electrical connector that works like a key. You stick it in, but electrical contact doesn't happen until you rotate it 90°. (Which also prevents it from being yanked out.). I can't find any sign of this now. Does anyone know what this is/was?

Alien life, probabilities, and interstellar propagation of human life

That sounds like a personal theory to me. https://www.technologyreview.com/2023/12/11/1084926/human-brain-cells-chip-organoid-speech-recognition/ https://www.science.org/content/article/scientists-fuse-human-brain-cells-electronic-circuits-and-make-it-think Meanwhile, the closest thing we've...

Alien life, probabilities, and interstellar propagation of human life

True. Living in a cave in Antarctica would be far safer and more comfortable than living on a generation ship.

Alien life, probabilities, and interstellar propagation of human life

Carl Sagan's Cosmos shows this guy as basically making life, back in the late 1970s. "These nucleic acids can even make identical copies of themselves. " That seems like a definition of life to me. In addition to the hypothesis of more advanced life eating any new startups, he also mentions...

AI's First #1 Country Hit: Authenticity vs. Traditional Artists

This isn't country music, or AI, but it is something I like. I also lived Kate Bush before she was on Stranger Things.

How would a Machine at the Heart of the World tidally lock the Earth?

This can only be a fantasy book though. The premise really doesn't make any sense. Slowing a planet to tidally locked would take obscene amounts of energy, and what would that accomplish? It would be cheaper and faster to build a counter rotating shell enclosing the entire Earth and held up...

Looking for a reliable inkjet All-In-One printer for photos and docs

Another strange thing: Basically nothing has improved about ink jet printers in the last 20 years. Print quality, ease of use, flexibility, nothing. They seem to clog more than they used to, and finding certain things like print-on-cd is now very rare. Wireless printing from phones is about...

AI's First #1 Country Hit: Authenticity vs. Traditional Artists

Personally, I like music that does unexpected things and surprises me. So I usually find country rather dull. It's just people complaining and not doing much. There are exceptions of course. Is this song really "County". I'm not good with music terms, but it sounds more like Gospel to me...
