Undergrad Doppler Effect Relative Motion
What would happen if the speed of the wave is less than the speed of the source when the source is moving towards the detector? That would make a negative value for the denominator, wouldn't it, while the numerator is positive? Then, the frequency is going to be negative. Is that possible?- anhhuyalex

Undergrad Doppler Effect Relative Motion
Why doesn't it apply just because of a medium? Since all motion are relative anyway, why is it that we need to consider the velocities from the reference of the medium instead of considering the velocities from the reference of the source or the detector?- anhhuyalex

Undergrad Doppler Effect Relative Motion
To calculate the detected frequency from the source frequency, we use this formula: { f }_{ D }=\frac { v\pm { v }_{ D } }{ v\pm { v }_{ s } } { f }_{ s } where {v}_{s}, {v}_{D} are velocities of the source and the detector respectively with reference to the medium. My question is why do...- anhhuyalex

The amplitude of sound waves from two nearby speakers
Homework Statement In the figure below, two speakers S1 and S2 emit sound waves of wavelength 2m, in phase with each other. Let Ap be the amplitude of the resulting wave at point P, and Aq be he amplitude of the resultant wave at point Q. How does Ap compare to Aq? a. Ap<Aq b. Ap=Aq c...- anhhuyalex

Undergrad Acoustic standing waves with an open far end
My textbook says I'm confused by this, because isn't a standing wave caused by reflection of the waves once it has hit the end of the tube and reflects backwards. How can sound waves be reflected from the open air? Thank you for taking the time to answer. :)- anhhuyalex
