B Fewer seconds or shorter seconds?

I see what you mean. Gotta be more careful with my language. Always the case with this stuff.

B Fewer seconds or shorter seconds?

Yes, he can tell the second for himself (ie - in his frame), which will be different from one observed from another frame. But there is no universsal frame in which one can say the "real" observation is done. Theya re all equally valid.

B Fewer seconds or shorter seconds?

I am afraid you are mistaken. Time dilation is NOT the Doppler effect. Doppler effect does cause blue and red shifts in light from moving object, but time dilation has nothing to do with it. Damn you, auto-correct! lol Thank you. yes, it is obviously what I meant.

B Fewer seconds or shorter seconds?

Opps. Misspoke. BOTH twins will perceive the other one's clock as running slower than their own. But I don't know where you get that there would be a difference beetween the motion being inbound or outbound. Time dilation is independent of direction. The only thing that matters are the relative...

B Fewer seconds or shorter seconds?

The problem with your question is the: "are". There is no "are". That is to say, there is no universal frame of reference by which to decide how long the seconds "really are". What would you compare a second to as a yardstick to determine how long it is? The seconds ARE there yardstick. And...

B What happens to time as space is expanding?

One intuitive way to put the answer is this: Time is a dimension, same as space (to be more precise, it's one arbitrarily specially-selected dimension from a 4-dimension spacetime manifold, but never mind that right now). When space expands, the new expanded space is measured same as before. A...

B Understanding Lorentz Transformations in Special Relativity

A lot of people already left [what I am sure are] good mathematical answers. But it sounds like what you were looking for is an intuitive explanation. More, specifically let me try to answer your two actual question: > What's the purpose of this? There is no "purpose". Lorentz transformation...

B Did the Big Bang expand faster than light?

Very good explanation, but there is a small correction I feel compelled to make, mainly because it is such a common statement even among people who know the subject of Relativity fairly well. It is NOT true that special relativity states that nothing can move faster than the speed of light. If...

What is the Latest Research on Spacetime Models in Relativity Theory?

Fair enough. But is it OK to ask questions relating to published work?

What is the Latest Research on Spacetime Models in Relativity Theory?

Theoretical physics is a hobby, though I did was pretty close to undergraduate degree in it from UCSD. Area of interest mainly Special and General Relativity, specifically working on an new model for spacetime.
