I do want it to function like that, but I do also want it to be able to be on while I'm driving. They are very dim so they're not at all a distraction, so I would like to be able to do that. So knowing that, how does all that look?

Yes I'm using some commercial LED strips I got on sale. Does my setup sound ok with using the diode like that? Or do I need to worry about any sort of problem between the dome light and cigarette lighter?
