High School Fan is pushing in the front and sucking from the back
Ah, got it. Well, I just checked our portable fan (which has flat blades) and indeed the dust accumulation is on the front of the fan, not the back. It must be due to impacting the air on the front side where the air is pushed away from the fan.- berkeman

Cheaper fans use flat blades at an angle. Better fans use airfoils at an angle (like a propeller). I dated a woman in undergrad who had this syndrome. It affects about 1/10,000 folks, and can lead to misdiagnoses in EMS (she had an appendicitis episode that was initially misdiagnosed and delayed her treatment).- berkeman
