Graduate Expanding the Range of an Electrometer?

    1. Electrometers etc never draw voltage.( they can only draw current). 2.weve been over the voltage divder circuit and that has resistors that put a load on the enerator. that makes the electrometer useless. Voltage dividers are menat to be used in things that have current.

Graduate Expanding the Range of an Electrometer?

why are you being so literal. 10^14ohms qualifies as almost infinite impedance.

Graduate Expanding the Range of an Electrometer?

There is only 1 type of elecctrometer. (there's no such thing a a modern/ideal electrometer). Its just an electrometer. The concept of an electrometer is a that it has an infinite input impedance.( anywhere around 10^14 or greater ohms) so it does not draw any current from the system you...

Undergrad Measuring Voltage with Kelvin Water Dropper: Device Options and Combos

The electrometer is the only thing that actually measure the potential of the system beacuse the input resistance is virtually infinite, 10^14 ohms.(It has no effect and does not put a load on the generator) very good for ultra low current devices The issue is the pasco eleectrometer only reads...

Undergrad Measuring Voltage with Kelvin Water Dropper: Device Options and Combos

what would you say to running a potential through the sytem. Would that give it enough current to be read by a voltmeter. the original issue is that the voltmeter loads down the generator because the generator has such low current. Thereofr giving it current could help possibly? does that...

Graduate Expanding the Range of an Electrometer?

The electrometer has a resitance of 10^14 ohms. Thats enought to qualify it as an infinite impedance electrometer. I can't imagine havgin 9 times that resitance although I am sure it could be done

High School Physics of a Syringe: Surface Tension & Water Retention

I think the explanations here are flawed. A syringe in effect is a vacuum. In the closed position put your finger over the tip and try to pull the handle on the syringe.(note even if you pull it up, when you let it go it comes back down). And we know that air vacuum's(physics not the...

Graduate Expanding the Range of an Electrometer?

If i have and electrometer. How can i safely increase its range from the 100V to the 10kV range. The electrometer has ultra high resistance so whatever i added in the circuit would need that too. Any ideas?

Undergrad Measuring Voltage with Kelvin Water Dropper: Device Options and Combos

Measuring High Voltage(a.k.a) As you can see this is the kelvin water dropper and i need to measure the voltage buildup of the device before it discharges. Its very low current and very high voltage(15kV-20kV) Digital mutimeter's don't work by them selves. Digital multimeter's and a...

Undergrad Measuring Voltage with Kelvin Water Dropper: Device Options and Combos

I ve seen some answers to this issue of measuring the voltage of a low current high voltage system such as the kelvin water dropper. We have buolt the device and it functions properly. However once we attach any kind of meters to the device it no longer sparks and no longer charges...
