High School Need help with writing set notation.
Thanks for all the replies Stephen. You have been a big help. I do agree, this is more of a literary style question, sorry if this was the wrong forum to post it in. Just to confirm, you think something like this would be best: x1 angular position (deg) x2 gas velocity (cm/s) y1...- blink-

High School Need help with writing set notation.
Hey Stephen, I was trying to use a simplified example. The sets contain floats and integers. Here is a picture of the table in question. I would prefer using set notation, but if you think listing all elements is a better idea, I can do that.- blink-

High School Need help with writing set notation.
Stephen, Thanks for the reply. It is for a technical paper (journal publication). I prefer to use the set notation because it is going in a table with limited space.- blink-

High School Need help with writing set notation.
I need help with some set notation. I am an engineering major and don't know the proper notation. I am trying to write two statements. I have two sets, x_1 = {1,2,3}, and x_2 = {4,5,6}. Verbal Statements: y_1 was measured for all values of x_1 and x_2 y_2 was measured, for all values of...- blink-

Does this vorticity plot make sense?
I'm trying to plot the vorticity field for lid-driven cavity flow. Because I'm looking at 2D flow, the vorticity is plotted as a scalar field The flow field is clockwise, and I would expect the majority of the resulting vorticity field to be negative (right hand rule). However, it seems as...- blink-

Heat Transfer: Calculating heat transfer rate?
Chestermiller, Thank you for your reply. The answer is so obvious one you explained it. I've calculated the two heat transfer rates and they are definitely different (good). I also checked their dependencies on grid resolution and they always converge to the same numbers (good). Thanks...- blink-

Heat Transfer: Calculating heat transfer rate?
Homework Statement Given the two domains pictured below, calculate the heat transfer rate (Q [W]) for each case. http://img6.imagebanana.com/img/83fe4j54/Selection_001.png The domain on the left is insulated on the left, right, and right half of the bottom side, while the domain on the right...- blink-

Using Stress/Strain Curve to Find Yield Strength and Modulus of Elasticity
The 0.2% offset is done by taking the slope of the linear component of the plot and offsetting it 0.2% on the x-axis. See here for pictorial description: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Metal_yield.svg&page=1. You can then read the stress value at the intersection point. Cheers!- blink-

Levi Civita (Permutation) Symbol Proof
Thanks gabbagabbahey. We are allowed the use the \det(\mathbf{A}) = \varepsilon_{lmn} A_{1l} A_{2m} A_{3n} (it was another proof I did). The problem I am running into is starting the problem. The way the proofs are expected to be is is working from the left side until it equals the right...- blink-

Levi Civita (Permutation) Symbol Proof
Yes, that is absolutely right. It is the determinant of the matrix, not just the matrix itself. That is a very clear explanation. I sometimes forget about the "occurrence rule." I had the revelation while sleeping that what I did was wrong (mainly, that I can't sum one term (\delta_{kk})...- blink-

jedishrfu, Thank you very much for your quick response. My wife and I have been looking at your post and can't seem to understand how you got there. Do I need the third equation? I found it on a website but my textbook informs me that I only need the two other equations... When I rearrange...- blink-
