Bacterial pathways for water contamination, asking resident microbiologist
I was told nitrifying bacteria from various ecologies can only cross waterways via physical transfer, they desiccate in the air if attached to suspended dirt particles and they aren't spore formers to xfer that way, but this seems limiting for such a cornerstone organism. I want to know if there...- brandon429

Bacterial pathways for water contamination, asking resident microbiologist
Virtual experiment, please explain regarding nitrifying bacteria in aqueous solutions, how they transfer in air currents even though they aren't spore formers: Sterile glass beaker and sterilized, distilled water sets in a biology lab on the counter with no lid. Microbe count is zero so far...- brandon429

Video of my marine biology work
additionally, not one biologist has been able to identify the organism I posted on page 2 in the middle. years after the pic was taken and across tons of forums, this little one gallon tank has produced organisms that defy taxonomy. let me know if anyone is feeling froggy lol- brandon429

Video of my marine biology work
Hi biological buddies. Every few months I like to make updates to chart the longevity of the microsystem and the original hermatypic corals in the vase, what they do, reproduction, new challenges for the bowl etc So in 2010 and 2011 a new direction in captive coral reef maintenance became...- brandon429

here's that brown montipora sps shown from the outside of the bowl. I found they display annular ring growth like a tree, could be helpful for discerning age of specimen in wild studies. In the captive aquarium, the strata are defined by variations in tank chemistry and become rather...- brandon429

Strangest thing... yesterday I got this email, but when I checked here there was no response? Dear brandon429, johnsmith86 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Video of my marine biology work - in the Biology forum of Physics Forums. Evolution & Genetic Advantage: Is Knowing Enough?
in my opinion its a question involving the driving force of adaptation...or one of them. mutation thats the missing variable you are looking for. animals evolve because of mutations and without them adaptation would stop as the latest science would say. The mutations are either...- brandon429

Body can make anything such as proteins, fats etc from simple sugars
nice call quality of life wasn't even considered so far. and stomach pangs at least we arrived at the fact glucose stores are depleted by different mechanisms than being broken down to make proteins, let's rattle off some ways glucose stores are used up in the body to show the OP how they...- brandon429

Body can make anything such as proteins, fats etc from simple sugars
the need for glucose and amino acid stores in our body is just one example of highly different nutritive pathways that exist. there are several various nutrients needed to sustain life in addition to sugars that cannot be synthesized from sugars. many vitamins for example must be directly...- brandon429

Thought Id dredge up the thread for any new coral keepers who might have joined physicsforums this year...also there are coral husbandry updates, new vids showing calcification/coralline algae removal techniques to managed aged bowls and some biology behind invertebrate sustenance in the...- brandon429

Does lifting weights stunt growth?
Have you ever looked at a 1970's yearbook and wondered why the seniors look like grown *** men 35 years old, and today you look at one and it's a collection of back street boys for the most part? This has no relevance to my post, it could be that moustaches are temporarily out but I am damn...- brandon429

Does lifting weights stunt growth?
Carver, The answer to your question is yes height and stature is largely genetic unless you are exceeding your own setpoints for healthy, but hard work exercise. You can push it until your body tells you to stop reasonably, keep hydrated. if any strong kid has had summer two a days, you are...- brandon429
