Is Proof of A Subset of Union of Family Valid?
I'm unfamiliar with that notation. By ##\cup \mathcal{F}## I mean the union of all the sets that are in ##\mathcal{F}##. In other words ##x \in \cup \mathcal{F}## is equivalent to ##\exists B \in \mathcal{F}( x \in B)##.- bubblescript

Is Proof of A Subset of Union of Family Valid?
Homework Statement If ##\mathcal{F}## is a family of sets and ##A \in \mathcal{F}##, then ##A \subseteq \cup \mathcal{F}##. Homework Equations ##A \subseteq \cup \mathcal{F}## is equivalent to ##\forall x(x \in A \rightarrow \exists B(B \in \mathcal{F} \rightarrow x \in B))##. The Attempt at...- bubblescript

Find line tangent to curve which is parallel to other line
Yes caught the mistake. So using -5/2 on f(x) gets f(-5/2)=-43/8, which means a point on the line is (-5/2, -43/8). If the line is of the form y=1/2*x+b, we substitute the point for x and y: -43/8=1/2*-5/2+b b=-33/8 The line is: y=1/2*x-33/8- bubblescript

Find line tangent to curve which is parallel to other line
Homework Statement Find the line tangent to the curve f(x)=0.5x2+3x-1 which is parallel to the line g(x)=x/2+0.5 Homework Equations f'(x)=x+3 The Attempt at a Solution I know it involves taking the derivative of f(x) and using it somehow, but I don't know where to go from there.- bubblescript

What math skills should I re-learn to improve my understanding of physics?
Yes keep working on KA. You methodology should be to do mastery challenges as soon as they become available. KA is built around the "Curve of Forgetting" and will reinforce subjects at an optimal interval. But note that KA should be an exercise supplement to your primary source, which will be...- bubblescript

How can I succeed in Physics this time? Will it get better?
Sounds like you don't have a holistic grasp of the mathematical basics. I suggest you start doing Khan Academy no less than 1-2 hours per day. Start at the very beginning. Yes, it will feel dumb at first as you blow past rudimentary arithmetic, but as you go you will develop a solid foundation...- bubblescript

Intro Math Math Self-Study: Build a Strong Foundation for AI PhD
Thanks, I will take your advice under consideration, and add the book to my list of potential study material. I think the "No BS Guide" seems good since it supposedly takes the reader from high school math to calculus, and everyone on amazon is singing high praise in the reviews, so if they are...- bubblescript

Intro Math Math Self-Study: Build a Strong Foundation for AI PhD
What do you mean by not enough practice questions? As in variety, or difficulty? Because KA keeps generating new questions forever until the student gets it right enough times. And in my plan Spivak would not be the first exposure, I was thinking KA -> Savov No BS Guide -> Velleman Proofs ->...- bubblescript

Intro Math Math Self-Study: Build a Strong Foundation for AI PhD
My idea was to master the World of Math mission on Khan Academy [0] before starting books. That program includes pre/calculus, so if I can complete it, that would indicate that I'm ready to start some of those books, don't you agree? [0] https://www.khanacademy.org/math- bubblescript

Intro Math Math Self-Study: Build a Strong Foundation for AI PhD
Hi, I'm embarking on a mission to self-study math, and would like some recommendations on any missing books or ones that should be replaced in my repertoire. The goal is to build a strong mathematical foundation. My naive idea of what that means is something like an undergraduate math major, so...- bubblescript
