Understanding Tension in a Block and Tackle System

oh, so the tension occurs 5 times b/c 4 times at the lower block, but then also from the boy like the picture because the whole thing is one system, and the block is only part of it. thanks for the explanation to clear it up!

Understanding Tension in a Block and Tackle System

Homework Statement The boy is lifting himself using the block and tackle shown. If the weight of the block and tackle is negligible, and the combined weight of the boy and the beam he is sitting on is 120 lb, what force does he have to exert on the rope to raise himself at a constant rate...

Spectrometer setup to minimize absorption of reflected light

^i'd do that if I could, but I can't reliably get just the blue light because i'd have to move the spectrometer and that changes the intensity. I'm just trying to get data for a stern-volmer plot, so if there's a way to do that with just this setup, that'd be great

Spectrometer setup to minimize absorption of reflected light

yes. I am using the oceanoptics jaz

Spectrometer setup to minimize absorption of reflected light

a filter wouldn't help because I am concerned with the overlap of reflected and fluoresced light, and a filter wouldn't be able to distinguish between them

Spectrometer setup to minimize absorption of reflected light

I'm working on an experiment to measure the quenching of an oxygen-sensitive dye. The excitation light is blue and the light fluoresced is red. When I collect data, there is always a peak for blue and red, which makes it impossible to measure really the quenching in low dye concentrations...
