Connection transformation from geodesic equations
It's alright. I was working on this with a friend today. Interestingly, we were both having a similar problem that was due to the same error. The mistake is in the final step. I erroneously used the chain rule on the double-derivative, which would have a more complicated form if it was done...- cazlab

Connection transformation from geodesic equations
Okay, I almost have the solution now. However, some of the indices in the first term should be primed, and none of them are. I've uploaded a pdf of my solution. I'd appreciate it if anyone feels like pointing out where I've gone wrong :)- cazlab

Connection transformation from geodesic equations
Okay, I think I've made some progress, but not sure. I've done it backwards, but not sure if all of the operations I've applied are 'legal'. Here's what I have \Gamma_{\mu^\prime\lambda^\prime}^{\nu^\prime}=\frac{\partial x^\mu}{\partial x^{\mu^\prime}}\frac{\partial x^\lambda}{\partial...- cazlab

Connection transformation from geodesic equations
I don't know if the tex is displaying properly. On my computer all I see is the geodesic equations in every tex field. In the past when this has happened, it has been fine for others viewing it, but if it doesn't make sense, I will upload a pdf or something. Thanks. Homework Statement The...- cazlab

Sketching curves on a plane with a given metric
Ah, thanks. Strangely it's still wrong to me even after refreshing, but as long as it looks right to you guys it's all okay. Thanks for your response. It sounds then like the only option is to sketch it as I already have. There is more to the question (which I have mostly already done) which is...- cazlab

Sketching curves on a plane with a given metric
weird, instead of a matrix at the top it should read t=u sinh v No idea why it does not display properly, it's like it copied the metric that I displayed further down. It's mental. I can't even put in a line in my first post saying that the matrix is irrelevant there as it just adds more...- cazlab

Mathemathical Methods to Solve a Physics Problem
I don't have time to look at the problem in depth, but I would think that you could write the potential in terms of Bessel functions and solve for the constants using the boundary conditions. I don't know if that's right, but just a suggestion.- cazlab

Sketching curves on a plane with a given metric
Homework Statement Consider a coordinate transformation from (t,x) to (u,v) given by t=u\sinh vx=u\cosh v Suppose (t,x) are coordinates in a 2-dimensional spacetime with metric ds^2=-dt^2+dx^2 Sketch, on the (t,x) plane, the curves u=constant and the curves v=constant.Homework Equations None...- cazlab
