Is IQ the Key Factor in Pursuing Pure Science?

I'm not going to argue the merits of an IQ test or whether or not it matters for pure science( It doesn't ). I'm just going to say that if you took your IQ tests online, then they were definitely unreliable. All- and I mean all- online IQ tests are bogus.

What Are the Best REU Opportunities to Explore This Summer?

I received an e-mail from Fairfield stating that they had filled all their positions already. If you don't get into any of them you should talk to some of the professors at your school and see if they have anything available over the summer. It probably won't be paid research but its better...

What Are the Best REU Opportunities to Explore This Summer?

Well then there is still some hope for those of us who didn't apply to the commutative algebra or continued fractions groups.

What Are the Best REU Opportunities to Explore This Summer?

I too am interested in seeing if anyone has heard back from some of the other groups.

Programs Math Major is this too heavy of a schedule?

Are you being sarcastic? To OP, how many math classes have you taken at once before? If you have taken a similar workload then this shouldn't be an issue at all. 5 math classes in a single semester shouldn't be too bad if you have been doing well so far.

Is There a Winning Strategy for the Planet of Lies Number Game?

So after reading the planet of lies thread I thought it would be interesting to figure out the optimal way to play the number game described. It is played as follows: There are five players and ten rounds. During each round every player picks a number between 1 and 5, This choice is secret...

How Do Knots in 4-Manifolds Influence Homology Classes?

At Tinyboss- His example is for 4-manifolds, so the second homology group is the only one that matters to any significant degree. At OP- As to the second part of your question, If the second homology group is trivial then certainly any two embeddings of S are the boundary of some 3-manifold...

How Should an International Physics Student Craft an REU Statement of Purpose?

Assuming that the concept of duality paper posted on the forums on protheory.com is yours... It's not something you would want them to read.

How Should an International Physics Student Craft an REU Statement of Purpose?

I would say that this part still needs to go. What you did in high school isn't really important. And it doesn't make any sense to say that you were interested in string theory but were later convinced that it was the wrong path. As others have already said, you need to focus on a few things to...

Which class should I take next semester, Complex Analysis or Topology?

Brown and Churchill is a great book, however the exercises can be incredibly difficult, so having a lecture can help with those. Munkres is definitely doable without a lecture.

    Is mathematics alone truly Beautiful?

So why doesn't this apply to metric spaces, or topological spaces, or categories?

    Is mathematics alone truly Beautiful?

I think you should first define what you mean by abstract since your definition doesn't coincide with that of anyone else.

Unified Field Theory: Presenting a Mathmatical Formula

Did you know that the so-called "imaginary" numbers are no more imaginary than the real numbers, or the rationals, or the integers. Sorry, pet peeve of mine. More on topic though, please don't listen to arkajad, you need to have your work peer-reviewed. Although many journal submissions are...
