Using compressed air to displace water
Sorry for the delay in getting back, I've been very busy. Jobrag, I think I know how to get rough values using Bernoulli's, this is what you meant, right? My issue is computing the changing pressure since the pressure will drop as there is a larger voume of air as water drains out. I hope that...- cocopops

Using compressed air to displace water
Thanks, I wasn't aware of these. I'm not actually going to be making this system, it's just for a university project. What I really need to know is what realistic compressed air pressures are? It's easy for me to just say "I'll make it 1000 atmospheres" but I doubt this is reasonable? Once I...- cocopops

Using compressed air to displace water
Not really sure how to word the title better! Anyway, I'm looking at how I could design and do some basic flow calculations regarding compressed air. The idea is to have a tank of highly compressed air piped to a tank of water. When the valve between them is opened, the compressed air rushes...- cocopops

Calculating flow variables from a water pump
Thanks for your help so far! I've got this chart for the pump in question, but I just want to make sure I understand what it is displaying. Does this mean for a flow rate of 300m3/hr, then the head can be between 70~450m? I don't understand why it isn't a fixed value? On that same...- cocopops

Software for drawing simple diagrams for reports
Inkscape is one that's came up in a few searches now, so I'll have a look into it, thanks! Looked a little more into Tikz, and it might not seem as complicated as I first thought, so I might give it a go too.- cocopops

Software for drawing simple diagrams for reports
I agree, the results from this are exactly what I'm looking for, but I'm not sure that I have the time to learn how to use it well, at the same time as trying to write reports, study, etc. If there was an easier tool to use with similar results, that would be what I'd use. Thanks for you're...- cocopops

Software for drawing simple diagrams for reports
I'm looking for some software I can use to draw reasonable technical diagrams- the sort of diagrams you'd find in online lecture notes, or in maths/engineering textbooks, i.e. simple shapes, arrows, curves etc. It's hard to describe what I mean, hence why I've came after nothing on Google...- cocopops

Calculating flow variables from a water pump
I see. Well the pump that is proposed is a centrifugal impeller pump, and the only real data I can find on it is the mass flow rate (250 m3/hr). Lets say I know the diameter of the pump outlet, and the diameter of the nozzle (and assuming density is constant), do I need any other data to...- cocopops

Calculating flow variables from a water pump
The setup I have is a water pump, with a pipe out leading to a nozzle of some sort. I know the mass flow rate of the water through the pump, and wish to calculate the exit velocity of the water from the nozzle. Which other variables do I need to know? Also, what dictates the limit to the...- cocopops
