There are physicists, somewhat difficult to find, who work in Philosophy of physics and as long as your physics application is good it might be possible to work with them on philosophy of physics. I know there are some guys at various UK schools, not sure where they exist in the US.
WHY is there so much confusion over this topic? OP asked how to tell if a physical system or set of equations is nonlinear. The answer is, a physical system is said to be nonlinear if the EQUATIONS governing it are not linear. i.e. the differential equations involve terms which are not scalar...
In my opinion the first two years of physics in university are also pretty boring, mainly because there simply isn't enough math to learn anything substantial at that point. After that Lagrangian mechanics is awesome, QM is alright (in my opinion), and GR is amazing. But first year mechanics and...
Is this the only drawback though? The reason I don't apply to a US school now is because I think my credentials and research experience will be much better in a year. I mean, the thing is, regardless of whether I take a fifth year or do a Master's, I'll be taking similar courses...so what...
Thanks for your input. But what exactly do you mean by "terminal master's" degree? In Canada we usually take a Master's between our Bachelor's and PhD (unless you decide to skip it). So next year I will be doing either that or a fifth year (in either case there will be research experience) --...
I am a fourth year undergraduate who will be graduating this year and doing a master's in mathematics (in Canada), or possibly taking a fifth year to improve my math credentials. I am curious as to what my chances of getting into a top US school for Mathematical Physics (at a mathematics...
Hello PF. I am finishing my third year of a Math and Physics program in Canada. I am getting very anxious about my marks and grad school, and what sorts of schools I should look into applying to / expect to actually get into. I'm asking partially because my friends always seem to be doing...
Hey guys,
I'm a third year undergrad student taking Physics & Math. I'm not sure which of the two I'm going to go to grad school for yet, but both are a possibility. I recently got back some bad test marks for these two classes I'm in that I really dislike (atomic physics, and relativistic...
