How can I determine if a set of numbers is truly random based on a histogram?
It sounds like a Chi-square test is suitable for this. I think you use the fact that if it was random, you would expect each number 1-50 to come up 6 times, so the distribution should just be rectangular.- cosmo123

Calculating Velocity of a Car Rolling Off a Cliff
v^2=u^2+2as, so the car is traveling at (2*9.8sin(15.6)*27.5)^0.5 when it goes off the cliff.- cosmo123

Undergrad A charged conducting wire in an electric field
Suppose I have a wire with a net charge (lets say negative) in a uniform electric field from another source, such that the field lines are parallel to the wire. I want to work out the electric field surrounding the wire. Because the wire is conducting, the electric field inside the wire will...- cosmo123

What is the relationship between angles in a 3D trigonometry problem?
Yeah, it doesn't work, i probably should have checked some figures. I re-did it and i think i missed a 1. I got tan a = sqrt((tan b)^2 + 1) * tan c => tan a = sec b * tan c so yes, youre completely right, thanks.- cosmo123

What is the relationship between angles in a 3D trigonometry problem?
Homework Statement [PLAIN]http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/1344/trig.jpg The angle c is separated from a 2d plane by angle b (perpendicular to the 2d plane). Angle a is angle c projected onto the 2d plane. What is a in terms of b and c? Homework Equations The Attempt at a...- cosmo123

Does Omniscience Negate Free Will?
I don't know much about philosopht, but this seems correct. You can rearrange it to apply to the past, instead of the future, and it is still essentially the same, although obviously untrue. 1. An infallible, omniscient, being exists. [Assumption] 2. This being has knowledge that event 'A'...- cosmo123

What is the purpose of sentient life?
Such typical answers for the scientifically minded. Either its pure biology, or its the quest for knowledge. We should get an artist to give their opinion. It will probably have something to do with painting.- cosmo123

Why do some atheists choose not to kill creatures?
You wouldn't hurt yourself, even without leaving any damage, simply because it hurts you. Its a bad feeling. You see a mouse express suffering in a similar way to how you would, so you sympathise with the mouse, because you know what that bad feeling is like, and it is obvious that the mouse...- cosmo123

Undergrad Can some one who understands gravity explain this?
Argh...I hate Penn and Teller...always giving away how OTHER PEOPLES' tricks are done, then acting like they're superior to them because of it. People like Criss Angel put a lot of work into performing incredible tricks and stunts, and easily make Penn and Teller seem pretty talentless.- cosmo123

News The US has the best health care in the world?
It seems like the ultimate version of personal responsibility would be one where there are no taxes and you pay for what you use. The top 90% can afford to use the roads. The top 80% can afford healthcare. The top 70% can go to school. The top 60% can afford the police. The top 50% can...- cosmo123

Why do I solve homework problems faster when typing them out on forums?
Writing what you know about a problem down helps you get your head around a problem. With complex problems, mainly mathmatical ones, there comes a point where even simply working out the concepts behind it in your head becomes incredibly difficult (for me at least). For advanced topics, in my...- cosmo123

Deep Sea Fish Exploding at Surface
If its from a higher preassure, a person can literally explode. The Byford Dolphin accident is a pretty gory example of this, where the preassure dropped from 9 atm to 1 atm almost instantaneously. Why are intermolecular HCl molecules among them not considered hydrogen bonds?
Youd expect it to because Cl is pretty electronegative, but chlorine is also a very large molecule, so it basically can't get close enough to the hydrogens to cause any particularly strong dipole, and the hydrogen has a high charge density so it deformes the large Cl into a fairly covelant bond.
