How Fast Does the Ladder Angle Change as It Slides Away?
So, I had everything right up until I solved for theta. I've rewritten the problem with detailed steps from the beginning so that I can remember this for future reference. Thank you.- d.smith292

How Fast Does the Ladder Angle Change as It Slides Away?
OK, so I see that I wasn't taking the derivative of θ with respect to time (t). Here is where I'm at now and stuck again. Cos θ = x/10 → (Now I take the derivative with respect to time) (-sin θ)dθ/dt = (1/10)dx/dt Now since the rate of change for x = 1 ft/sec I get (-sin θ)dθ/dt =...- d.smith292

How Fast Does the Ladder Angle Change as It Slides Away?
A ladder 10 ft long rests against a vertical wall. If the bottom of the ladder slides away from the wall at a rate of 1.0 ft/s, how fast is the angle between the ladder and the ground changing when the bottom of the ladder is 8 ft from the wall? [b]So, I'm having a difficult time figuring...- d.smith292

Solving 4log45 Logarithmic Problem
Thanks for all the help you guys have provided me with. I really appreciate it. This class I'm in right now is rough because the teacher isn't explaining anything clearly. She just starts talking as if everyone knows what she's talking about and gives no explanation as to why were doing...- d.smith292

Solving 4log45 Logarithmic Problem
Ok, so in my case with my bases being equal, my answer will always be x. We haven't gone over this yet, but how would I convert between bases in the more complicated problem of 8^log4(5)? Would you mind working this problem out, showing the steps so I can see?- d.smith292

Solving 4log45 Logarithmic Problem
 Gotcha! I see what your saying now. If my subscript is 4 and my calculator has a default of 10, all I need to do is sub out 10 when I see 4 and I will get the same answer. Is this correct? For example: 4log45 would give me the same answer if I used 10log105 I've typed...- d.smith292

Solving 4log45 Logarithmic Problem
I would type it in and work backwards, but my ti84 automatically sets the log with a base of 10 and I don't know how to change it to a base of 4. Do you know how to do this? When I get stumped, I usually type it into the calculator and work backwards to figure it out, but in this case I can't...- d.smith292

Solving 4log45 Logarithmic Problem
Homework Statement 4log45 Homework Equations ay = x ~~~> loga(x) = y The Attempt at a Solution I've separated the problem and decided to solve the logarithmic section first giving me: 4x = 5 I could move forward if I wasn't stumped on how to figure out what x is in this...- d.smith292

Understanding 'e' in the Compound Interest Formula for Students
Homework Statement Here is the problem that made me confused at first, now I'm just annoyed. I know I got the right answer for this problem as seen below, but I'm annoyed by the fact that no one has explained what the heck "e" is. Will someone please explain to me what exactly "e" is, so I...- d.smith292

PF Photography: Tips, Tricks, & Photo Sharing
No, actually I don't use filters at all. I am hoping one day to upgrade to a much better camera, but for now I'm using a Canon Powershot a520 and adjusting the contrast on my computer. Thank you for the complement. Oh and I always shoot my photos in color and change them to black and white...- d.smith292
