How to Analyze Correlation Between Variables
For the Parental Income variable, about 30% have checked Unknown, so not sure if that's meaningful quite yet for analysis. I have also added a test performance results variable and see that out of 35 possible points, there's 1 person that scored a 0. Out of my sample of 87 respondents, this...- daneault23

How to Analyze Correlation Between Variables
I suppose personal income could be placed as scale variable, it has options of 0, below $10,000, 10-20K 20-30K etc 70-80K above 80K, but for parents income it has same but also has an option for UNKNOWN. For tobacco and alcohol use the options are not evenly spaced so I would have to keep them...- daneault23

How to Analyze Correlation Between Variables
I've just finished entering all of the data. The most STI's anyone has had is 3, so I can make STI a scale variable as you mentioned before. Also I asked the researcher to really narrow done what she wants to know and she wants to know the correlations of test scores (and also STI rates) to the...- daneault23

How to Analyze Correlation Between Variables
thelema418 thanks for the response. I'll try and answer your concerns. First, the number of STI's on the survey had options for responses of 0 ,1, 2, 3, 4 or more. The "or more" part is what's throwing me off. They could have 6 or 10 but I would have no idea. Also there's no variable SES. I've...- daneault23

How to Analyze Correlation Between Variables
Homework Statement I'm doing a research project in which there's a survey given to respondents from 3 different groups of education(high school vs university etc) related to STD contraction rates. On the survey there's a question asking how many STD's they have contracted over their lifetime...- daneault23

Maximum Order Statistic Question
If I'm doing things correctly here, I get E(U) = (nΘ)/n+1 and with the usual calculations, Var(U)=(nΘ^2)/(n+2)-((nΘ)/(n+1))^2- daneault23

Maximum Order Statistic Question
Homework Statement Let Yi∼iid,uniform[0,θ]. Let U=max{Yi}. Derive the distribution of U and give the value of any associated parameters. Also calculate E(U) and Var(U). Homework Equations f(y)=1/Θ and F(y)=y/Θ The Attempt at a Solution Since we have a product of iid random variables, we can...- daneault23

Number of Possible Committees Formed
Homework Statement A class consists of 50 students, 30 of which are Math majors. Five students are selected at random to form an advisory committee. How many possible committees contain at least 3 Math majors? Homework Equations n choose r = n!/((n-r)!r!) and we say that represents the...- daneault23

Hidden Markov Model Homework: State Space S={1,2,3}, Alphabet A={a,b,c}
I just realized that the sequence could also be given by Q=111, 112, 113, 121, 122, and 133. It wasn't as easy as I originally thought.- daneault23

Discrete Time Birth and Death Process
Saying it in a more aesthetically easier way, b0=0, b1=b=.02, b2=2b, b3=3b, b4=4b, b5=5b, b6=0 and d0=0, d1=d=.02, d2=2d, d3=3d, d4=4d, d5=5d, and d6=6d which would in turn make the following transition probability matrix... 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 0 1 0....... 1 .02...- daneault23

Discrete Time Birth and Death Process
Okay, so for example in state 0 we can either stay in state 0 or move to state 1, but this actually means if there are no people than there will always be no people, correct? So state 0's row would have a 1 in the first entry and 0's everywhere else.. moving onto state 1 we would either go to...- daneault23

Discrete Time Birth and Death Process
Ray, so are you suggesting that the birth rate and death rate does not change depending on the state I am in? You're saying that b=d=.02 for every state except for 0 and 6 where in 0 we can't have any deaths and in 6 we can't have any births?- daneault23
