Undergrad What is the best way to be a relativist ?
What do you think about : Modern physics (Serway, Moses, Moyer) 3rd edition as a textbook of MODERN PHYSICS "not only relativity" .. what level is it ? and does it cover most of the topics of modern physics ? thnx- Dark_knight90

Graduate Why Are the Terms Squared in the Lorentz Transformation?
Hello This is a part of a simple paper about special relativity [PLAIN]http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/8789/91001769.jpg I don't understand the assumption in the red box .. why are they all squared ? thank you- Dark_knight90

Undergrad Why did Michleson assumed that ether is moving ?
yes I do know that .. but that is what they thought about when they were doing the experiment .. it seems to be a simple idea but i can't get it .. They thought that if they would measure the speed of light (with the Earth motion) and (against the Earth motion) and (perpendicular to the Earth...- Dark_knight90

Undergrad Why did Michleson assumed that ether is moving ?
Regarding Michelson Morley Experiment The speed of light (relative to the ether) is the hypotenuse of a right triangle with sides of length (speed of light on Earth) and (Earth's velocity relative to Ether) Can anyone clarify that point ?- Dark_knight90

Undergrad Why did Michleson assumed that ether is moving ?
Why did Michelson assume that ether is moving ? I mean why didn't he assume that Ether doesn't move and that is why speed of light doesn't change ? .. If Earth is moving in a direction, speed of light is "c".. if it is moving in the other direction, speed of light is "c" too .. because the...- Dark_knight90

Undergrad What is the best way to be a relativist ?
Thanks for the mind-opening points :) so the key is mathematics .. should I focus on specific topics ? aha .. I agree that the originals are not always the best teaching material and thank you for the book recommendation .. I don't want that either.. these lectures seem pretty well...- Dark_knight90

Undergrad What is the best way to be a relativist ?
thank you for your reply .. well, seems that getting the original papers is not a good idea, okay, I will skip that for now ... well, the problem is I study medicine and that is why i haven't been into Math so much but i took some calculus basics in school and I'm willing to expand my...- Dark_knight90

Undergrad What is the best way to be a relativist ?
I really want to start going through relativity .. but I'm a little lost .. what is the easiest way to start ? .. I'd prefer to start it as Einstein did (with little mathematics) .. There are some lectures on the internet from universities .. is that a good start ?? or you recommend something...- Dark_knight90
