Concern about past adventures in the liberal arts.
Oh, interesting. So I send them ALL of my academic records and they derive a GPA from that? Am I understanding you correctly? I guess my primary concern is not making it past the initial gpa-cutoff filter. A letter explaining the situation is probably a good idea though. Thanks for the input.- DdraigGoch

Concern about past adventures in the liberal arts.
I am in a bit of a difficult situation and I could use some advice about the magnitude of my problem and possible options. First, a bit of history... I had a rough adolescence resulting in graduating two years late. Not doing any studying or homework in high school lead to decent liberal arts...- DdraigGoch

Mathematics for Theoretical Ecology?
That is definitely a situation that I want to avoid. Like you said, it seems the really cool stuff in ecology requires a lot of math. Don't get me wrong, I'm an avid naturalist but I want a deeper understanding of the processes involved. Thanks for the review! I'll go pick that book up asap.- DdraigGoch

What's your area and level of expertise?
I am a first year undergraduate working towards a BSc in biology (ecology). My interest in ecology is primarily on the community->global scales and around the intersection with Earth systems. My big conundrum at the moment is figuring out how and whether to equip myself for theoretical...- DdraigGoch

Mathematics for Theoretical Ecology?
Oh really? That seems very strange to me, but what do I know? I would have imagined that self studying that quantity of information would be quite challenging. I wonder if it comes with significant deficits in biological understanding? I am not sure exactly what you mean by this, can you...- DdraigGoch

Mathematics for Theoretical Ecology?
Thanks for the reply Simfish! This information gathering project is challenging because I am at the "I don't know what I don't know" stage of ignorance and there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on theoretical ecology floating around. I've tried emailing a few people working in the...- DdraigGoch

Mathematics for Theoretical Ecology?
Hi, I just found this great forum and I am hoping to get some advice. I am starting an ecology degree with the hope of, one day, getting into grad school. I don't know yet what type of research I would like to do but I want to keep the door to theoretical work open. As my math background is...- DdraigGoch
