Physics What Are the Weaknesses of a Physicist?
Physicists can't demand as much money as engineers can. There's one weakness. Not true at all. Yes, Maxwell's equations are at the core of electrical engineering, but I'll be damned if Maxwell's equations will give you the theory behind filter design (e.g. Butterworth, Chebyschev, etc)...- Desh627

Dynamics Problem Help: Step-by-Step Solution Guide | Homework Statement
Agreed. I had lots of trouble in dynamics until I learned that the easiest way to solve just about any problem was to calm down and then draw FBDs, marking the givens and unknowns. After that, it almost always becomes a matter of simple mechanics.- Desh627

Graduate Polishing a BK7 Prism to 4020 Scratch Rating
I have a bk7 prism (borosilicate...) and I'd like to polish it to a 4020 scratch surface rating. How would I go about doing this? -

Undergrad What are white holes and how do they differ from black holes?
White holes are basically theoretical anti-black holes- meaning, they are a time reversal of the black hole and eject any matter that has crossed into the event horizon. The reason we really don't know a lot about them is that they are purely theoretical- they only arise as a solution to one...- Desh627

Graduate Bowling ball rubber sheet analogy
Your key word there is "layman." While your examples may very well work, the majority of laymen haven't taken any physics outside of high school physics, and many others barely squeaked by in high school with a C in algebra 2/trig. Those people won't remember/care what a Cartesian graph is...- Desh627

Recommendation for an undergraduate textbook
If you don't mind video lectures and problem sets instead of a book, MIT's Open Courseware is great. And if you do prefer a book (I usually do), this is a great supplement, or a place to start. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/web/courses/courses/index.htm- Desh627

Will this configuration run smoothly?
I second NewEgg. You don't necessarily need a 7200rpm hard drive, 5400 rpm works fine for me, and many other techs I know. Upgrade your graphics card, if you can. The 3200's okay, but you can do better. If you're doing video editing, this'll be where you want to max out your machine, as well...- Desh627

Enzymatic reactions that use ATP as energy source
Yes, a great many of them require ATP. Take glycolysis for example. Even though it produces 4 ATP, it requires 2 ATP to break down glucose into pyruvates, iirc.- Desh627

Hydrochloric Acid Burns: Serious Injury Risk?
+1. It really depends on the concentration. Although that's also not to say that if some hydrochloric acid (of any concentration) spilled on my skin, I wouldn't rinse it of VERY thoroughly. -

Undergrad How can I find the critical points of a function involving fractions?
f(x) has a relative minimum or maximum at either the endpoints of a region you're observing or when f'(x)=0. To determine whether it's a minimum, find when f''(x) is positive or negative; when f''(x) is positive, the graph is concave up, and when f''(x) is negative, the graph is concave down... -

Navigating Honors and AP Physics Textbooks: A Student's Experience
What you could do is get a Barron's AP Physics book, that'll cover everything you'll need to know. Barron's is the best imho for AP classes, raised my US History grade by at least two points, probably three. The Sparknotes Power Packs are terrible, avoid them like the plague. BUT, the...- Desh627
