Voltage Doubler help: 6V ac 36W alternator in ~ 12V dc out
Thanks, Tom. As you say, the ripple is only just noticeable on the present incandescent bulb and, like personal ugliness, is really the problem of people in oncoming traffic rather than my own. :) My only thought of using a "smoothing" Capacitor was to hold a proposed diode-bridge rectified...- DonKiwi

Voltage Doubler help: 6V ac 36W alternator in ~ 12V dc out
Thanks, guys. I will investigate further when I can get a chance to open the alternator. It does indeed have individual coils on their own cores for each of the three circuits. I may yet have to consider rewinding the (quite accessible) headlight coil for 12V and use a small bridge rectifier and...- DonKiwi

Voltage Doubler help: 6V ac 36W alternator in ~ 12V dc out
Thank you, gentlemen. I was consulting a high frequency example at the time of writing and my brain must have become overclocked and missed my outrageous frequency error until the editing widow closed. I have been waiting for someone to "spot my deliberate mistake" :) I considered the issue of...- DonKiwi

Voltage Doubler help: 6V ac 36W alternator in ~ 12V dc out
I am trying to build a Voltage Doubler to use a motorcycle 6 Volt a.c. alternator's dedicated headlight coil (which presently runs a 36W incandescent headlight bulb) to provide 12 Volt d.c. to drive a commercially-bought 12V LED headlight unit (also rated at 36W). Frequency will be (1500 ~ 5000...- DonKiwi

Question about Sci Fi Time Travel
You lied. You posted again regarding Time Travel next Thursday! Laws of Transtempodynamics: 1) Speculation about Time Travel is a waste of Time. 2) Speculation about Perpetual Motion is a waste of Energy. 3) The previous Laws hold true, even though Entropy is not what it used to be. Although...- DonKiwi

Finding Reliable Technical Information Online: A Scientist's Guide
Hi. Thanks for the welcome. I only just saw it after getting lost in navigation and shaking rust from my brain in answering a question which a member had asked. I will see before long if it is appreciated or whether I am run out of this town on a rail. :)- DonKiwi

Engine Finite Heat Release Model (With Heat Transfer) Help
Hi, Jason. I just joined this group and spotted an unexpected opportunity to be slightly useful before any chance arises of being a pest later. I notice that the parameters which you listed are in S.I. units (System Internationale to someone of your ancestry, and thankfully a standard used by a...- DonKiwi

Finding Reliable Technical Information Online: A Scientist's Guide
I have recently spent a frustrating amount of time trawling through online pages searching in vain for specific technical information. I am a refugee from the white noise of irrelevant data, uninformed opinion and misguided search results of these endeavours. I hope my questions will be of...- DonKiwi
