Is This A Level Physics Question Impossible?

Thanks Zz for your reply ,the bullet loses energy in penetrating the clay.

Thanks for your reply I was looking for a simple proof using Newton's Laws of motion.

Proof of 2v Velocity When Gun Fired Aboard Plane

If a gun fires a bullet at a velocity v and is then taken aboard a plane traveling at a velocity v and is fired again in the direction of travel ,what is the simplest proof that the bullet's new velocity is now 2v ?

Is This A Level Physics Question Impossible?

Thanks for your reply Mr.Kishki ,there will be a resultant force on the bullet and clay during the period of momentum transfer before they reach a common velocity.Momentum is only conserved when the resultant force on a system is zero .Note resultant force equals rate of change of momentum.PS...

Is This A Level Physics Question Impossible?

Thanks for taking the trouble to make such a pithy reply.I agree totally with your comment.

Is This A Level Physics Question Impossible?

The pellet is fired from underneath the clay no mention was made of the type of collision .I agree with you that it would be solvable if the collision was perfectly inelastic. In this case you cannot assume that momentum is conserved as there is a resultant foce on the system .

Why Does a Spinning Egg Stand Up and What Energy Changes Are Involved?

I've no idea what you are asking me .I would like to know why the egg stands up.

Why Does a Spinning Egg Stand Up and What Energy Changes Are Involved?

Yes, but I still don't have an answer to my egg question.

Is This A Level Physics Question Impossible?

Would you agree with me that the following question is impossible to do ,it's from A level physics paper 1980 multiple choice question no. 4 .A 5 gram pellet is fired vertically into 95 grams of clay at a velocity of v metres per second calculate the height the clay will reach

Why Does a Spinning Egg Stand Up and What Energy Changes Are Involved?

I'm surprised that you think that "some thought " would provide an answer to my question .Nobody on the internet seems to be able to give a simple explanation ,.there's plenty of baffling ones though. If the egg is spun fast enough it stands up ie. it's centre of gravity rises ,as it slows down...

Why Does a Spinning Egg Stand Up and What Energy Changes Are Involved?

Hi I'm not trying to save energy I'm just looking for an answer usually objects tend to become more stable by losing potential energy but in this case the egg gains potential energy.

Topic: Modeling Time and Velocity Using Integers in Relation to the Real Numbers

That's a good question ! how about minus infinity.I think we are getting to the crux of the matter.I'm very surprised that you are still helping me with this problem ,thank you. Also thank you for not trying to baffle me.

Why does a spinning egg stand up ,what are the energy changes and why do they occur

Topic: Modeling Time and Velocity Using Integers in Relation to the Real Numbers

Hi Sophiecentaur thanks for your reply, the partial answer was given to me by russ watters stating that the energyy of the universe is not quantized and hence there was no "next velocity" after zero time .But the problem is that there is
