MHB What Do Q1 and Q3 Represent in a Data Set?
what would Q1 and Q3 mean? I can't answer these questions until I know what these columns represent. Is Q1 the lowest grade given and Q3 the highest?- elove

MHB Two-tailed Test: Rejecting the Null at 0.05 Level of Significance
Yes! I get tripped up working backwards on problems. two-tailed - 0.05/2 = 0.025. I understand - thank you! I feel silly now on such a simple problem.- elove

MHB Two-tailed Test: Rejecting the Null at 0.05 Level of Significance
In a two-tailed test, the value of the test statistic is 2. If we know the test statistic follows a Student’s t- distribution with P (T>2) = 0.03, then we have sufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. I want to say True but I think I'm overthinking the...- elove

MHB Solving a Confusing Word Problem: Measuring Justice After Court
I have a word problem to solve and am thoroughly confused. any input would be great... My younger brother had a run in earlier with Médecins Sans Frontières. He narrowly escaped from an adverse verdict by the court... What he wants is that he be left alone to run his small café... He asked...- elove

MHB 95% Confidence Interval for Staying Awake at UMUC
I don't know how to properly use the coding on here. I can see how you did it so let me see if I can write it better. s = 2.0022 n = 9 $s/\sqrt{n}$ so 2.0022/ 3 = 0.6674 if I give you all my values can you properly code them on here? so I show my work better [overline{x}] = 2.33 t =...- elove

MHB 95% Confidence Interval for Staying Awake at UMUC
This is the word problem I am faced with... I have provided my answer. Please give input if I am right or wrong. It is 1581 Anno Domini. At the Undergraduate School of UMUC, besides Assistant Academic Director of Mathematics and Statistics, I am also the Undergraduate School-appointed CPA...- elove

MHB Discrete Probability Distribution
Thank you! This expected value equation makes much more sense now! Our group was halfway there with determining the probability but didn't follow through with multiplying the value to the probability.- elove

MHB Discrete Probability Distribution
I think that is why I am so confused. This week's material covers Continuous Distribution, Normal Distribution, Z-Score, The Standard Normal Distribution, Application of Normal Distributions, Normal as Approximation to Binomial Distribution, and The Central Limit Theorem. None of these seem to...- elove

MHB Discrete Probability Distribution
Okay, my online class has posed another word problem and I cannot seem to understand this week's material or how to formulate a solution. Here it is: Imagine you are in a game show, a money give-away! There are 4 prizes hidden on a game board with 16 spaces. One prize is worth \$4000...- elove

MHB Choosing a Dissertation Committee: Combination Permutation Dilemma
but how do I know that order doesn't matter? if order does matter than the final answer would be more than 105? If I gave them letters to represent members... ABCDE is the same as BACDE - its the same members, just a different order of the combination. if order mattered this is 2...- elove

MHB Choosing a Dissertation Committee: Combination Permutation Dilemma
ok so n! / r! (n-r)! n = 7 r = 4 7! / (4! x (7 - 4)!)) 7! / (4! x 3!) 5,040 / 24 x 6 5,040 / 144 = 35 but is this considering the fact that more than one mathematician can be on the committee? to me it seems as though this formula only factors one mathematician being on the committee...- elove

ahhh, I see what you are saying. Geez, I haven't taken statistics since high school. I don't know how to make the order not matter. My online class group is not helping.- elove
