Rock on Mars possibly indicating Life
With all due respect, @Baluncore, that is the age old disproved argument against pure science spending. Have you ever web searched the multitude of wide variety of spinoffs hugely important to the world's populace from just the Apollo Program? It is spectacular and in a massive variety of...- enorbet

Rock on Mars possibly indicating Life
While I can't shy away from the simple fact that I don't have many years left (I'm a 79 year old diabetic that has survived 3 strokes) but apart from my own selfish interests the simple fact is that if it is simply mineral based chemistry, since it is nothing we have any frame of reference for...- enorbet

Rock on Mars possibly indicating Life
I see this discovery as far more than merely interesting. I see this as compelling considering that so far no attempts, albeit limited by onboard labs, have been able to come up with any natural abiotic explanation to this occurrence at least by Earth environment standards. This means whether...- enorbet

Insights Planning to buy a first telescope? - Comments
Lately I've been wondering if there is any practicality in using CCDs transmitting telescopic images to a PC/Laptop and Monitor especially at longer exposure times since the more dim and distant objects appear to us with relatively small displacement that would make for fuzzy imaging. Has...- enorbet

High School Gravitational Wave Background: The Mysteries of the Universe
I don't know if this is the ideal sub-forum for this but I'd like to know more about this very recent activity I first saw here >>>>>' It looks like this could be some actually testable, actual breakthrough advances in Physics and the evolution of our Universe. Any comments appreciated.- enorbet

Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks
On a lesser note I binge watched the new season of The Expanse and while the cast and production are as compelling as ever, I found it mildly disappointing but that is probably due to the "tough act to follow" syndrome. Not every writing team or story can conclude a brilliant story as perfectly...- enorbet

Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks
I'm rather impressed with a new (2019) gem from the UK which may be rather unfortunately titled Cosmos as there is bound to be some confusion and blurring over that title, but it is well worth seeking unless you don't enjoy the geekier films of the genre. It starts very slowly and takes a long...- enorbet

Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks
Incidentally for those of us who enjoy positive message Sci Fi suitable for whole family viewing Disney's Tomorrowland is a decent experience. It poses a great riddle for kids (and maybe some adults) to ponder - Some of the Science is typically Disney child-like but it displays a trust in...- enorbet

Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks
I just realized there's a gap in my reading here. I did finally get to see a few seasons of "Expanse" and it's really quite good. I also recently viewed High Life and I concur. It's good and the blend mention is accurate and who wouldn't love a blend of Solaris and Silent Running?- enorbet

Movies for hardcore sci-fi geeks
I recently watched what may come to be an important milestone in Sci Fi. Don't get excited yet since it is by no means a "pulse-pounder". It is the 2017 film, The Beyond . I liked this movie rather a lot while at the same time understanding it's low rating and probably low appeal as far as...- enorbet

High School Questions about the Timeline of the Big Bang
Whew! Gentlemen, thank you... that helped. For a minute there I was beginning to imagine giant caterpillars smoking hookas might be real ;) -
High School Questions about the Timeline of the Big Bang
Please forgive my denseness in this matter but my only excuse is that I am literally a half century out of College and I haven't used much beyond rudimentary calculus in any job I've worked. From my learning integers are perfect abstractions because they are constructed and defined that way. I... -
Old plumber wisdom, is he right or not?
He didn't say the opposite. Both are technically consistent. If I may speak on mfb's behalf I think he was merely noting that pressure and volume in a closed system are usually inversely related. You can experience this with a simple garden hose and an adjustable nozzle.- enorbet

Medical DNA of Gut Bacteria Scores Hits in Autism?
Greetings Since genome sequencing is apparently having a major impact on medical science, just to name one field, I am interested in hearing/reading more about this recent event regarding autism. It seems to me this could have far-reaching implications and possibly major impact on how we view...- enorbet
