I have always had a fascination with science and engineering technology and this led me to a bachelors degree with double majors in chemistry and biochemistry and the first course in computer science taught in New Zealand in 1969. Then a masters in biochemistry with a thesis on the computer simulation of cheese making. Lots of fun!
Then a PhD in medicine on a computer simulation of the sodium-potasium ATPase "pump". Then as post-doctoral research I did a computer simulation of fluid electrolyte shifts in patients undergoing hemodialysis in England, Germany, and South Africa.
Returning to New Zealand in 1983 I was a lecturer in computer science at the University of Waikato for 4 years finishing with 1100 students in my courses.
Then I came to the USA to go to medical school at the University of Miami, a residency in Internal Medicine at Stonybrook, New York. Then a year at Stanford studying nephrology.
Finally I went into medical practice in Tennessee where I live now. But we still spend a lot of time in Thames, New Zealand where I am setting up a small workshop with my father's engineers lathe. We have travelled in 53 countries.
