Hey everyone,
So here in Australia things are a bit different to Europe (and the US). Here you would usually finish your honours year and then apply to a PhD. How I understand it is in Europe is it goes - BSc, Masters then PhD.
I'm close to finishing my honours year (which includes a research...
Thanks for all of the responses!
I still have a most of the year to go before I have to make any real decisions. Plus I'm still not sure what schools I'd be looking at applying to yet anyway. Probably something I can start looking at now
Is doing a PhD at the same uni that you completed your undergrad degree fine? Is it bad, should you avoid it?
I'm currently in the 4th year of my physics degree, doing my honours year, and my supervisor has mentioned that I am in a good position to continue to do a PhD with him. While I'm happy...
Wow thanks for the reply. It really helps. They way you put it, it does make sense to go with PDEs and then study analysis in my own time. At least then I can go at my own pace, without all the added pressure of a class.
So far I've done more applied math, than pure. I want to go into...
At the moment its looking like I'm going to try to get into a PhD program after honours (Starting 3rd year this year and honours next year).
Yeah I've asked my previous supervisor, course coordinator and some lecturers I know about this before (all physicists, not mathematicians). With regards...
Yeah I see what you mean. I definitely am hesitant in taking it due to the effect it could have on my scores. Another reason I'm hesitant is because back in first year I failed an elective unit I disliked for being too hard, because I just stopped doing work and study for it. I'd like to think...
Hi all,
I'm a bit undecided what to pick as my last unit for my math major. I'm about to the the 3rd year of my degree. I'm a physics and math major, although I'll be continuing with physics into honours (and beyond). I'm all set with my physics units. There isn't much leeway in accelerating...
Thank you for the reply. Do you think applied maths helps out more with physics rather than pure maths? Does this depend what field of physics you end up going into?
Hey guys. On semester break here at the moment and I've been trying to plan out some of my undergraduate course as a way to cure my boredom. Basically I'm stuck on deciding on certain math units I should complete.
A bit of back story first. I'm only a first year undergrad at the moment, just...
