High School Maximum Force on transom of a boat under acceleration
I thought I was using SI for the bulk of the equation and converting at the end but I wasn't sure I was doing it correctly. I'm want to use PSI because I want to test the solution using a hydraulic press to experiment with different transom thicknesses in plywood.- ggcarmichael

High School Maximum Force on transom of a boat under acceleration
I'm trying to calculate the maximum Force in PSI applied to the transom of a planing boat under acceleration using F=ma. boat mass is 300kg accelerates from 0 to 10m/s in 6 seconds F=ma -> 500N = 300kg *(10m/s/6s) = 112.4045lbf the contact area between the boat transom and motor is 1000 mm2 =...- ggcarmichael

Efficient Air Curtain Calculation Method with Engineering Toolbox
I would like to calculate the values for an air curtain. I've tried using the aircurtain calculator from Engineering Toolbox: http://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/air-curtains-d_129.html Δp = 2.2 q2 sin(α) / b H3/4 but I'm not sure how to figure in the length of the opening - q (q =...- ggcarmichael

Multiple Pulley Power Transfer
I don't need pressure - I need to continuously move a large volume of air. I'm essentially creating a wind tunnel for experimenting with aerodynamics.- ggcarmichael

Multiple Pulley Power Transfer
I had anticipated 80% efficiency in the belt drive system. I plan to drive two backward curved centrifugal fans. Will driving these types of fans be more more advantageous than driving another type of device?- ggcarmichael

Multiple Pulley Power Transfer
Thanks for the responses. So the power stays constant, torque increases and speed decreases. So the two devices would have a max HP of 18 each (not accounting for drive train losses)? Is there a way to take advantage of the increase in torque at the device shafts?- ggcarmichael

Multiple Pulley Power Transfer
I would like to drive two identical devices off of 1 power source. I would like to use two independent but equal sized V-belts, a double stacked pulley on the drive shaft and a single pulley on each of the device shafts. If the power source has a rating of 36HP @ 3600 RPM, what is the maximum...- ggcarmichael
