Undergrad How is the universe expanding if the speed of light is finite?
In layman terms, are we saying that the dark energy is/will eventually expand faster than C but that actual matter of the galaxies can not move faster than C because of common relativity? So this is why the standard model does not work? Pardon my ignorance. -
Undergrad How close is Earth to the closest black hole?
So we agree the estimated (but not known) distance to be approx. 3-400 LY?- graybass

Undergrad How is the universe expanding if the speed of light is finite?
"There is no global way of uniquely defining relative velocities so to talk about a global speed limit is not a sensible thing to do. However, locally, in a space-time region small enough to ignore curvature and adopting a local Minkowski frame, galaxies further away do move away faster than... -

How Does Recurrent Hospitalization Affect Long-Term Health and Quality of Life?
Good luck sir! I had a major heart attack 10 years ago with 5 bypasses. It has completely changed my habits. I go to the gym 5 days a week and do light weights and moderate cardio. At 62 years old, my last check up was beyond compare. I lost 40 pounds and my PB last week was 110/63. At the time...- graybass

Graduate What is space in contrast to void?
What if space-time is finite, but nothing exists without being observed. I think consciousness which does the observing is infinite therefore you have a paradox of the infinite observing the finite which defies logic...or something! -
High School Dsitribution of Stars and Galaxies?
Most of your star/planet ratio questions we just don't know yet, although they do seem more common than was originally thought. -
Undergrad Could Dark Energy be Dark Matter cooling?
I too am a layman, but doesn't gravitational lensing of deep space objects greatly point in the direction of dark matter? Isn't the amount of lensing observed absolutely say there is missing matter between here and threr? JMHO- graybass

Graduate Cyclic Universe: Exploring the Theory of Multiple Big Crunches and the Big Rip
Any you guys read the proposal coming out of Chapel Hill about a fresh model on the Cyclic Universe? Supposedly a good theory on how the Universe will have a lot of separate "Big Crunches" just before the "Big Rip" I just glanced over it. I'll read it in depth later today. GB -

Undergrad The Everlasting Cycle of the Universe
That's a big statement there! I'd love to believe in the Recurring Universe Theory. There just is so much science saying otherwise. -
Graduate Creating Matter from Energy: Is It Just Theoretical?
If the physical universe all around us is the result of E=MC squared, then is not all matter the living breathing example of energy vibrating (string theory) therefore creating matter from energy in the form of everything, including you and me. Therefore matter is constantly being created from... -
Graduate Creating Matter from Energy: Is It Just Theoretical?
As far as I can tell isn't the universe energy, creating matter? After all E=MC(squared)
