Except, if the industry of space launches ramps up, the overhead of formerly remote location drops to near zero as the dependent... -

Not really. You need about 7800 m/s of delta V to get to orbital speed, and an additional 1,500 to 2,000 m/s to account for gravity... -

The above is a bit like Bransons 'Virgin Orbit' idea which failed from lack of finance ... only he took the payload (in a small rocket )... -
GGTOM replied to the thread Any plausible non chemical rocket based space launch system on Earth?.the nasty part is when air hit it. At another place, they said no present day material withstand that if cargo reach orbital speed in...

GGTOM replied to the thread Any plausible non chemical rocket based space launch system on Earth?.Well, for story purposes, it should be destructible from the ground.

By "It", I am guessing you mean the SpinLaunch system ... And by "it", I am guessing you mean the SpinLaunch second stage. Yes, a second... -
GGTOM replied to the thread Any plausible non chemical rocket based space launch system on Earth?.i dont want to bring some sort of unobtanium to explain how it can hold the weight. the structure should be still ruinable without nukes.

GGTOM replied to the thread Any plausible non chemical rocket based space launch system on Earth?.It describes a rocket in the stratosphere phase. Could it really withstand such big acceleration?

Perhaps "SpinLaunch", which is cargo-only. Also, if you are looking to avoid "big, expensive", then a space elevator wouldn't fit the... -
GGTOM posted the thread Any plausible non chemical rocket based space launch system on Earth? in Sci-Fi Writing and World Building.I write an sf story, and an important part is an attack on a big, expensive space launch system on Earth. But what system could be built...

GGTOM replied to the thread Writing: Input Wanted Limits of detection and interception in space.I wondered about a story option: they say stealth without some magic heat sink is irreal, even if a ship could mask heat radiation in...

GGTOM replied to the thread Writing: Input Wanted Limits of detection and interception in space.I cant edit it anymore. So the martians want to capture or destroy cargo. If it is close to belt, only destruction can happen, since...

GGTOM replied to the thread Writing: Input Wanted Limits of detection and interception in space.I also thought if moon is on one side of the sun and mars is on the other side, that is a safe launch opportunity. Although Mars could...

GGTOM replied to the thread Writing: Input Wanted Limits of detection and interception in space. But if catch happens close to belt, they can simply send a missile after redirected cargo. Since cargo wont have big acceleration, it...

GGTOM replied to the thread Writing: Input Wanted Limits of detection and interception in space.i think such dirty tricks are good justification that redirect cargo should be trusted to manned ships (together with no strong AI).
