What makes a misaligned belt drive inefficient?

A picture of what I visualize. looking at the second picture from top view / 3rd picture from rear view of the crocked pulley. pulley in red, belt in black. the horizontal lines are gears/grooves. and the yellow dot are the contact points, which can also be thought of as one fixed point on a...

What makes a misaligned belt drive inefficient?

I agree. The picture in my head is similar to the second picture, with a straight belt driven by a crocked pulley, then the teeth of the pulley will move along the surface of the grooves on the belt which is where they meet.thanks!

A On the equivalent definitions for solvable groups

    We have the 3 equivalent definition for solvable groups: There exists a chain of subgroups 1 < G1 ...< Gi + < G i+1 < Gr = G such that Gi is normal in Gi+1 and Gi+1/Gi is abelian. Another definition is there exists 1 < H1 ...< Hi + < H i+1 < Hs = H such that Hi is normal in Hi+1, and...

What makes a misaligned belt drive inefficient?

http://constructionasphalt.tpub.com/TM-5-3895-374-24-1/css/TM-5-3895-374-24-1_666.htm consider the misalignment illustration in the link above. What makes a misaligned belt drive inefficient? I imagine it is due to increase friction but where does this friction manifest in the system? (which...

Engineering Advice for a mechanical engineer turned mathematician?

What kind of company are you working at? I personally just cannot handle bordem at work, I listen the fun and challenge i had in school.

Engineering Advice for a mechanical engineer turned mathematician?

Thank you for your reply. That's some tough love right there :) I think people have told me about the same thing you are telling me, however, after talking to many of my fellow graduates, the nature of what we do are just very different, most of my friends are actually enjoying what they are...

Engineering Advice for a mechanical engineer turned mathematician?

Thanks for your reply(1) I have, but what I realize is that in the department I work at (It's a big company) most people don't do much "innovation", since the products have already been design, which is how I got this job in the first place, whatever's to do in my company is really just...

Engineering Advice for a mechanical engineer turned mathematician?

I graduated with a mechanical engineering degree in 2014 and I have had my job for a year now. I absolutely hate it, I am a manufacturing engineer, but I don't feel like I use the skills I learned at school at all, I have these little projects that I get do every once in a while but they never...

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

Ah, so reasoning, well at least it is something that you can actually get better by practicing right?

What do you mean by conscious thought ?

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

that's actually a good news to me if it is true that you can solve a problem through hardwork in the mathematical research zone, since that would mean that even little guys like me can make contributions.

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

Even though having aha moments doesn't always help with research But wouldn't being more receptive to aha moments be helpful ? If I am not very receptive to aha, does that mean I'm not going to be good at research work at mathematics? I mean physics you can do experiments and such, but for...

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

Definitely, well I guess there's no harm in thinking more often outside the box,I shall take your advice. To some extend, I think observation is useful for thinking outside the box, since it takes some observations of your attempted approaches to identify the boundary of the box. After all, I...

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

ah! that way I can practice my problem solving skills without necessarily ruining the surprise(well, since it is known the surprise is already ruined). I guess that's a life aha! for me. but in short, you are still suggesting that it takes practice to enhance one's creativity? any approaches...

How to be more insightful? (AHA insights)

Hi guys:It's a general question about mathematics so I figure it best belongs to the general math forum.I would like to know how to be more "AHA" insightful, often time when I look at a math problem/puzzles, there's always these little things (observations, reasoning) that would enable one to...
