Undergrad Work & Heat Transfer: Newton's 3rd Law & Internal Energy
So the internal energy of a system changes if work or heat is transferred between itself and its environment. Say you compress a gas and therefore do work on it, increasing its internal energy. According to Newton's 3rd law, shouldn't the gas also do work on its surroundings. How come this isn't...- HummusAkemi

Undergrad Understanding Energy and Magnetism: Debunking Common Misconceptions
I pry two magnets apart. The magnets attract each other. Say they exert a constant force F on each other. I exert an equivalent force F on each in the opposite direction and pull them apart a distance d (pull each of them d/2 distance). So I have done positive work Fd in total and increased the...- HummusAkemi

Perfect Competition: Exploring Demand Curve & Marginal Revenue
Hi, For a perfectly competitive firm, the demand curve is horizontal, and yet how do you have a downward sloping demand curve for the whole industry, assuming you're using horizontal summation? The curve should get flatter if you're summing them, not steeper. Also, is there any marginal...- HummusAkemi
