Graduate Gravity and Acceleration on a 50,000 km Space Elevator
Thanks the reply and for that publication, looks very interesting. Is the 35800km the point where Earths gravity has lost effect? Also what if the ladder was going toward the moon? would the passenger feel the weight again as he got closer to the moon? Would there be a Lagrangian point and...- jack5000

Graduate Gravity and Acceleration on a 50,000 km Space Elevator
I've been reading a lot about space elevators being built from carbon nanotube thread and having lifters powered by lasers. I'm imagining it to be 50,000 long. Obviously this is fiction at the moment, but i was wondering... if there was such a structure, what would be the effects of gravity...- jack5000

Questions about a planet with two moons
Thanks Nimbian, some very useful thoughts there. I was thinking the main planet to be Earth sized, the habitable moon maybe Ganymede size and the smaller moon to be just smaller than our moon. Distance-wise to the Earth planet, maybe 70,00 km for the moon and 200,000km for Ganymede. I just...- jack5000

Questions about a planet with two moons
Hi, this is my first post - i need some help with my astrophysics. I'm writing a sci-fi story where an Earth like planet has 2 moons. One of them is habitable and has conditions like Earth - like an atmosphere and so on (almost like a twin planet). The other moon would be smaller and more...- jack5000
