Can Microwaves Alter Protein Structure in Food?

I was under the impression that the wavelength emitted by microwaves are only enough to induce shaking, stretching, ticking, rotation and vibrations among water molecules. Actually anything without water molecules in it wouldn't be able to become hot.

Convergence of different macromolecular structures with same function

My professor had given us a lecture on the RNA World Hypothesis. He provided evidence for this hypothesis by citing the in-vitro selection experiments carried out on RNA. The outcome of one (or more) of these experiments resulted in the "creation" of an RNA polymerase ribozyme which totally...

Engineering Is it worth it to go get HVAC/R training after graduating engineering college?

My father is a self-employed HVAC/R technician and I have to admit, that man has made considerable financial progress if we measured in terms of investment properties.

    Is Sex/Gender Really a Continuum?

Hats off, I don't know if you just came up with that on your own or if you read that somewhere but math and gender identification that's quite clever. Sex is pretty binary as it relies on "solid" anatomical structures and hormonal levels. Gender is a bit more ambiguous and saying its binary...

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

Argh, your mathematical fictionalist views clash with my nominalistic views. Why can't I picture the root of negative one

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

We already use math to describe many of our observations of nature, why can't we expect it to be linked to nature. Isn't the reason that its so good at describing the real world be an indication that it should be linked to nature.

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

Doesn't that bother you? Isn't there something extremely odd about it. And do you mind defining pathological. I have never heard it used in this context (I study pathological pathways and changes of tissues).

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

But it doesn't change the fact that the math itself doesn't have any application until later.

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

Almost all mathematics that there is eventually has some roots in some physical phenomenon. We don't just make random things up for fun, and then it turns out that it's actually useful. If mathematicians make up something new, then there is usually some reason to do it and some motivation for...

Should I get my University's water tested?

Do you go to UofT by any chance because I have never seen yellow or brownish water in any of the libraries at the University of Toronto. Also plastic bottles are bad for the environment . Also, if you are, what chemistry professor is spouting lies about our beautiful water.

    Kettlewell and the Peppered Moths

no serious experimenter suggested that Kettlewell’s results were invalid. Indeed, subsequent experiments to test these criticisms broadly confirmed Kettlewell’s results I partially disagree with this statement; Kettlewell's results incorrectly demonstrates natural selection and his conclusion...

    Kettlewell and the Peppered Moths

I'm just wondering how many of you learned the Kettlewell experiments and how it proved solid evidence for evolution in high school? I later learned that the Kettlewell experiment was riddled with many problems (using dead moths, assuming birds have similar human vision, contradictory data in...

Faith and Math: Is There a Connection?

I apologize if there's any mistake in my question or argument as I don't have an advanced education in mathematics (haven't seen anything beyond first year calculus with the exception of partial derivatives in a purely thermodynamic context) so please do correct me if I'm wrong. I can't...

Analyzing Data with Limited Sampling Rate: Techniques and Approaches

Hey, I have never taken any stats course but I desperately need the answers to my questions checked out. We have a dataset with 5 independent and dozens of observational dependent variables, including location. The independent and dependent variables are sampled asynchronously! (the...
