    Thermal conductivity and resistance

in that case i would be juggling with too many unknown variables right? how do u suggest i make the question solvable? will it be ok if i set these conditions? 1. the max Q allowed is 20W 2. there is a constant heat source in the room at 45C 3. the max allowed temp rise in 18C is around 2-5C

    Thermal conductivity and resistance

hmm.. so i would actually need to know the maximum amount of heat allowed to flow through? i don't really have that data though. without that i can't solve the question rite? what if i assume an ideal case where all the heat is blocked and Q=0? can i still solve this question?

    Thermal conductivity and resistance

Homework Statement i need to find the thickness of the insulating material that is needed to block out the heat that is coming into the room. the area of the affected wall is 3.3m2 the temp in first room is 18 degree celsius while the 2nd room is 45 degree celsius. the thermal...

Engineering Are there any engineering jobs with 30 hour work week?

well... there will be tonnes of indians and chinese who are willing to do your work for 100 hours a week. some of them don't really have an interest in engineering, but because of the culture and upbringing they have, they always forced themselves to work hard till they bleed.

How to make it big in engineering

just wondering how u guys consider if an engineer is sucessful or not? for example, - come up with the next big invention in technology? - inspire the younger generation with your area of work? - make meaningful contribution to the society? - setting up a successful tech/engineering...

Engineering Is There a True Shortage of Engineers or a Skills Gap?

i am concerned that companies are getting too overdemanding in what they are expecting from the engineers today.

Engineering Is There a True Shortage of Engineers or a Skills Gap?

this article addresses the question on the lack of engineer in our society. is there a real shortage or are the engineers themselves lacking the required skills? what's your opinion on this issue? http://news.thomasnet.com/IMT/archives/2005/11/are_we_lacking.html

Is Engineering Still a Viable Career Path?

actually, i am more worried that i would lose out on many, many opportunites to grow and learn as an engineer. the reason is with so many of our work being outsourced to china and india, we are not only outsourcing our jobs, but at the same time we are providing them with ample opportunites and...

Physics Why spend 10 years to get a physics PhD and then go to work for Wall Street?

i hated it when people who studied science and engineering went on to do business and finance. i believe that many of them left because there weren't sufficient opportunities or pay to continue working in science and engineering. in that case, won't there be a brain drain in the area of...

Is Engineering Still a Viable Career Path?

hey thanks a lot guys for sharing your views so far :) i know that studies is very important and i shld be focusing more on that rather than thinking too far. but i hope to have a clearer vision to work towards to so that i can motivate myself more. i am having my summer vacation now, so i am...
